The 90's called...they want their style back.

While rifling through my sister's closet I noticed a lot of items, could have been stolen from my closet growing up a 90's kid.
I'm not going to lie, I love seeing this trend unfold, and its not just my sisters closet where I've seen this throw back to the 90's emerge...

Fuschia is the new black

Yes its winter out. Yes I want to curl up in a little ball until the sun shines again. But that doesn't mean we should dress as such. Went out for a girlfriends birthday this past weekend and saw a perfect oppurtunity to wear this party dress, that adds a little colour to the bleak winter months.

I don't know what it is, but when I put this dress on it just makes everything seem better, and this Betsy Johnston belt ain't so bad either.

Here's to looking forward to spring my friends.

Grammies? Is that how much coke you need to stay awake through em? LooOOOOOOoooong!

Quoted from twitter by the ever so funny and off side Russel Brand (Katy Perry's fiance).

Yes the grammy's are long, (there is no need for the show to be 3 1/2 hours long) (maybe take out all the country shit and then we'll have a show!) (no offense to anyone who likes country, just my opinion) but who's watching for the awards anyway? its all about the fashion man. and shit does lady gaga know how to make a statement or what?

before I get to the my opinions on best and worst dressed, I just wanted to side note a bit about gaga's performance and gaga herself. I watched her on Oprah a bit ago and before I saw this interview I thought the way she was was because thats the way she is, if that makes sense. then it came to light that all she does, every costume she puts on, every theatrical performance she shows is all for a purpose. to send a message to the masses, telling a story about truths and lies that she believes needs to be brought to everyone's attention. she is a walking, talking fabulous work of art. so for those who hate gaga (I know quite a few) take a second to realize that she is more then a car crash that can't be looked away from, she is artistically telling a story that needs to be told. Wow, I'm dramatic this monday morning, aren't I? blah blah blah, loved her performance a lot.

Also, Pink's performance was spectacular. seriously one of the coolest performance I have seen on the grammy's stage ever! and Beyonce...wow, amazing, wonderful and all that, but she has a copious amount of kick ass songs, did she have to do her rendition of Alanis Morrisettes You Outta Know to fill in some time? I don't know I thought it was weird and unnecessary.
Okay back to whats important. Judging others.

So I might be getting hate mail for this one but I really didn't like Beyonce's dress. I get the concept, sure. clevage-very nice, but the sleeves just ruined it for me. I mean, I wish she went either sleeveless,  or at the very least capped sleeves, if necessary, but not that length, not that length at all.

but then again she can wear a paperbag and still look amazing. (not sure why Im hating on Beyonce, goes to show that if you are the best, you expect the best, I guess she just fell short for me this time around)

Now I don't know why exactly, but I loved Katy Perry's dress, not her usual style of course, but I loved how from the front it was a very simplistic silouette but when she turned to the side her dress becomes a little more taboo. Side Cleve! (might be the best kind of cleve, in my humble opinion) and low backs makes for an awesome dress.

Can't really see it here, but trust me I saw it with my own two eyes...
but for me, someone that encapsulated the way one should dress at the grammy's was (drum role please)

Heidi Klum!! someone who has nothing to do with the music industry except for marrying into it.

I mean, lets face it, the grammy's aren't the Oscars, so I don't think the flowing long gowns are really necessary nor relevant at this type of award show, so leave it to Mrs. Seal here to combine the elegance of a long flow-y gown with the fun-ness of a shorter length gown. I'm rambling now.  and again check out the cleve!!!!! For someone who lacks in that department I sure like to talk about them/stare at them. Yikes.

and thats alls i gots to say about 'dem dresses, ya hear.

Im in a silly mood today.

Shiny Disco Balls

As my loverly friend Nicole has already pointed out in a previous blog entry, amongst many others to date: SEQUINS IS IN.

I do enjoy watching this trend evolve into something more refined.

Isaac Mizrahi Spring 2010 Ready-to-wear from style.com

From the way Isaac Mizrahi has made the look a little more classy and sophisticated, with the muted colouring and the simple silohuette, while at the same time giving it a little more sass with the shiny, textured bottom.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 Ready to wear from Style.com

...to the way Proenza Schouler has taken it to a whole other level, with their use of amazing colours and animal inspired prints.

Leaving me to believe one thing....sequins are here to stay.
and I'm okay with that.

Did you miss us?

We're back, refreshed and relaxed and ready to get back at it...

Well, all I got to say is... what a trip, literally and figuratively. Couple of firsts happened on this trip. The first first  is that whilst in the ocean we would get swarmed by these beautiful tropical yellow and black fishe-y's that would actually eat the bread right out of our hands, it was pretty freaking fantastic.

Second first, is that I have never in my whole 27 almost 28 years of existence seen this much rain pour down from the skies. It rained 3 days straight, and when I say straight I mean non-stop pouring. I mean the ground couldn't even handle the amount of rain that poured down on it. Now I'm not going to say that it ruined our trip, 'cuz it didn't (that would be impossible), I'd say in fact it made it more special, if that makes sense?  Because for as long as I live I will never forget this trip for the way it made us really get to know each other, dare I say more then anybody should know each other (nothing was off limits with this group), and I'm extremely thankful I was there with friends who made the best out of it too.

This picture doesn't even do it justice.

Thirdly, we felt the after effects of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti, and I wish I didn't. Its unbelievably horrible what has happened there, and I think about it every day all the time. I wonder though if I hadn't been so close to it would I have put my blinders on and not even cared about the traumatic event that took place? Would I have changed the channel and pretend it didn't happen. I hope to think that I wouldn't, I would hope to think that I would have looked above and beyond my own bubble and taken notice of the tragedy that has effected so many lives and more devastatingly, so many children. It is heart wrenching. And though I don't have much to give, I think this is one of those causes that far out-weigh my financial status. I will give what I can. Because I can be enthralled all I want, but this is one of those times that looking at the pictures and paying attention to the reports are not merely enough, if there is anyway I can help out, I will.

On a less serious note, I'm glad to be back, because reality for me isn't really that bad ( I could do without working, but that's neither here nor there). More importantly, there is a lot of ideas I have in my head that Im excited to trasalate on our blog with the hopes that you'll keep reading.

Ciao for now!

Puerto Plata or bust!

I know, I know, we've been horrible bloggers lately, what with all the commotion of the holidays finally winding down and most importantly our trip to Puerto Plata coming around the corner! Our blogging has taken a back seat as we've been busy trying to fit ourselves into bikini's and trying to make it look good! So in just a little over 24 hours we'll be up in a plane kissing this shitty canadian weather goodbye for a whole week!  Seeing as this is Betty and Veronica's first trip together we are uber stoked for all the adventure that is going to come our way.

While we are lying on the beach we'll be thinking of awesome new blog spots to throw at ya, so please stay tuned!

Bon Voyage!

Cheers,

Happy New Year!!!

Here is to an awesome 2009 and an even better 2010!!!

Had an amazing night with our amazing friends.

First we went to the keg....

Mmmmm...the Keg.

Then we went to a friends house party where a bunch of undocumented shit went down which in my books = an awesome party.

I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of my new shoes from Aldo that I bought for uber cheap to go with my even cheaper outfit I bought in the states, but I found the shoes here on the Aldo website.

Me Likey.

So here is to an epic 2010 from "Betty and Veronica" aka Mara and Nicole.

Hope its all you dream of and more!

Cheers,
Mara
